So how do we really change the way we are feeling?
Firstly establish exactly how you feel, there are many ways that you can feel....
Afraid Alone Angry Anxious Ashamed Confused Depressed Discouraged Dominated
Exhausted Fearful Frightened Guilty Hopeless Hurt Ignored Inferior Miserable Overwhelmed
Rejected Sad Stressed Stupid Tired Unhappy Useless Worried
This is just a few of the many feelings that you can have, once you identify with a feeling - write it down, you may have more than one! Underneath the feeling you have written down write the reasons you feel that way, your reasons will determine what you are thinking about, for example;
The feeling The reason
Anxious I have to study for exams Overwhelmed I don't know where to start
Then write a new heading
My action steps
Create a study timetable
Allocate sufficient time for each subject and write it in your timetable
Include breaks for exercise and nourishment (Your brain needs water, healthy food and exercise for optimum functioning)
Stick to the timetable and reward yourself each day you accomplish your goals
All your studying will be achieved
Through this process you activate your brain to acknowledge your feelings and take control of your thoughts. Your action steps allow for new thoughts which immediately make you feel different, perhaps you will now feel focused and confident.
You can use this method for any unwanted feeling you may have, get your brain involved to help you think a different feeling "One that you actually do want to feel".
